My Updates Don't Sync! - Troubleshooting Guide
If you’re using the Same Item Multiple Boards app and noticing that updates (comments) on items aren’t syncing across boards, don’t worry — you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place.
This guide will help you understand why updates may not sync, and walk you through how to resolve each case.
*
When set up properly, updates posted on a shared item should sync across all boards automatically, no matter where the update was posted from.
If that’s not happening, here are some common reasons why 👇
Updates can take a few seconds to sync. Try refreshing your board after a moment to confirm.
Sometimes, users assume an item is shared, but it isn’t.
How to check:
Look for a ✨* star emoji** next to the item — that indicates it's shared.
Or, click the item → go to the "Same Item Multiple Boards" tab.
If it says “Your item doesn’t live on other boards”, it’s not shared.
If it shows a list of boards — you’re good!
Each user must authorize the app once in order for their updates to sync. This is a one-time action, and it won’t expire — but it must be done by the user personally.
How to check and request authorization:
Click the “person with a key” icon inside the app panel.
Use the filters to view Authorized / Unauthorized users.

If a user has a black “unauthorized” badge, click the email icon next to their name to send them an authorization request.

🔁 Note: Once authorized, only future updates will sync. Past updates will not retroactively sync.
If a board is private, and the user posting the update isn’t a member of it, their updates can’t be synced there.
Fix: Add the user to the private board(s) where the item is shared.
There is a custom recipe:
“When update is posted, do not share it with other boards.”
If this recipe is installed on your board, updates won’t sync — by design. This is uncommon, but worth checking under your board's automation settings.
Is the item actually shared across boards?
Has the update poster authorized the app?
Does the user have access to all boards where the item lives?
Is the “do not share updates” recipe active?

✅ First, what's the expected behavior?
When set up properly, updates posted on a shared item should sync across all boards automatically, no matter where the update was posted from.
If that’s not happening, here are some common reasons why 👇
🔍 Why updates may not sync:
1. ⏳ There’s a delay
Updates can take a few seconds to sync. Try refreshing your board after a moment to confirm.
2. ⭐ The item isn’t actually shared across boards
3. 🔑 The user who posted the update hasn’t authorized the app

4. 🔒 The user doesn’t have access to the other board
If a board is private, and the user posting the update isn’t a member of it, their updates can’t be synced there.
Fix: Add the user to the private board(s) where the item is shared.
5. ⚙️ An advanced recipe is blocking update sync
There is a custom recipe:
“When update is posted, do not share it with other boards.”
If this recipe is installed on your board, updates won’t sync — by design. This is uncommon, but worth checking under your board's automation settings.
