🔧My Columns Aren’t Syncing sync! - Troubleshooting Guide
When columns don’t sync across boards in Same Item Multiple Boards (SIMB), the issue typically comes from one of a few specific causes.
This guide covers every known reason why your data might fail to sync — and the exact steps to resolve each one.
🧩 1. SIMB Is Enabled Only for One Workspace
If the app was installed for a single workspace, boards outside that workspace won’t appear as available destinations and therefore won’t sync.
✅ How to check & fix it
- Open the Apps Marketplace.
- Search for Same Item Multiple Boards.
- Open it and go to the App Management tab.
- Review the installation scope:
- All workspaces → ✔ fully enabled
- Specific workspace only → ❌ restricted visibility
- Switch it to All Workspaces.
This ensures SIMB can connect boards across your entire account.
🛠 2. Unsupported Column Types
If a column type isn’t supported by SIMB, it simply won’t sync.
This applies even if everything else about your setup is correct.
Fix
Check our list of supported columns and adjust your board structure if needed.
🔗 3. Columns Do Not Match Across Boards
For any column to sync, it must exist on all connected boards with the same:
- column type
- structure
- settings
If a column is missing or mismatched, syncing will skip that field.
Fix
Make sure all required columns exist on both the source and destination boards.
SIMB will show a “missing column” message inside Item View when something doesn’t match.
🔐 4. You Don’t Have Permission to Edit the Destination Board
If you don’t have edit access or if the board has restricted permissions, updates may fail silently.
Fix
Ask your admin or board owner to ensure you have:
- edit permissions
- access to all connected boards
- the correct role for updating items
🔄 5. Webhooks Are Disabled or Broken
SIMB relies on webhooks to sync updates.
If a webhook is disabled, deleted, or broken, items may stop updating.
Fix
Go to the destination board:
Board Settings → Webhooks
→ Reinstall or re-enable the SIMB webhook.
If they continue to misbehave, reach out and we’ll refresh them from our side.
🚫 6. Large Batch Operations or Rate Limits
Syncing very large numbers of items at once (for example when duplicating many items) can trigger throttling or partial syncing.
Fix
Try syncing items in smaller batches.
If the issue persists, contact us and we can check the logs.
🔁 7. Conflicting Automations
Heavy automation activity on the same items can interfere with SIMB updates.
Fix
Pause related automations temporarily and test syncing again.
If the issue disappears, adjust your automation logic to avoid loops or overlaps.
📉 8. Board Performance Issues
Very large boards, cluttered structures, or too many active automations can slow down or interrupt sync performance.
Fix
- Archive items you no longer need
- Remove unused columns
- Reduce overlapping automations
- Split massive boards into smaller ones if possible
🧪 9. Use the Discrepancy Report to Identify Sync Gaps
If items partially synced or stopped syncing mid-way, the Discrepancy Report quickly highlights:
- items that didn’t sync
- missing updates
- mismatched columns
- any boards missing data
Fix
Run the Discrepancy Report from the SIMB Item View.
This is the fastest way to pinpoint what needs attention.
